"Verde" means green in both Spanish and Italian. The Verde series was inspired by how quickly summer comes upon us in Maine. We have a short, but vibrant growing season and after the slowness of winter and spring, I am sometimes caught off guard by the rapid green shoots overtaking my yard and gardens. I tend to my plants as I do my paintings - there are ordered sections and there are areas where I allow things to get a little wild and unruly. With both my garden and my paintings, I strive for the centuries old Japanese art of ikebana - the art of arranging to evoke a specific feeling or emotion in the viewer.
