El Mar, 2022
Encaustic, Oil, and 23 Karat Gold Leaf on Panel
24 x 42 in
El Mar is Spanish for the sea. Water is a subject matter I return to again and again. In this case, I was thinking of walking on the beach, the deep cold blue Maine water, seagulls, wide open space, snatches of sunlight, and sand. Not the warmth of July or August, but an early spring stroll when the air is still brisk. This painting is a diptych - made up of two separate panels that can be hung right up beside one another or with a small amount of space between them.
